FAQ's

For those of you who have never been familiar with Young Life, and for those of you who are, but are not sure of some of the particulars, here are some questions and answers to help you understand more of the mission.

What is Young Life?
Young Life is a non-profit, inter-denominational Christian youth ministry.  It functions nationwide all 50 states,  and over 100 foreign countries.

How is Young Life supported?
In Manatee County, Young Life is supported in a unique way.  Each year we have a banquet where members of the community donate a raise a budget supporting the Area Director, interns, full- time and part-time staff, and an operating budget.

Is Young Life affiliated with a particular church or denomination?
No.  Young Life is supported practically and philosophically by nearly every major denomination in the country, yet it is not affiliated with any particular church.  Young Life staff, leaders, and committee members are involved in local congregations representing major denominations, Protestant and Catholic.  Young Life does not seek to replace or compete with local church youth groups or Christian Education programs.  Rather, it attempts to aid them by reaching out to many teenagers who would not otherwise be in church.

What is Young Life’s relationship to the local school system?
As a religious organization, Young Life can have no formal relationship or endorsement from a public school system.  However, we have an excellent working relationship with the schools.  We have been granted by each principal to be on campus and they often use us as a resource.

Why do I sometimes see Young Life leaders at sporting events and other public activities?
All of our leaders and staff care deeply for young people and have many friendships with high school students, many of whom don’t attend Young Life meetings or functions.  Young Life leaders may often be seen relating to and caring for kids wherever they may be found, simply reaching out and being available as an adult friend.  Young Life leaders don’t “recruit” young people to be involved in the program.

What is Young Life Club?
The Young Life Club is a weekly outreach meeting held in a home, church, or community building.  The meeting is about one hour long and consists of singing, humorous skits and games, and a brief message on Jesus and the Christian faith.  There are no dues or memberships, and people of all faiths or no faith are welcome.

What is Campaigners?
Campaigners is the discipleship part of our mission.  Campaigner groups are small group Bible studies where kids who want to grow deeper in their faith can share their lives with each other and their leader while on the journey of faith.
